Gut Altona

Everything about this hotel and stay was great from the very beginning upon checkin with a helpful welcome and showing us our room and bicycle storage. Bedrooms were good size with comfortable beds as was bathroom. The food at both dinner and breakfast was delicious with great service by all the staff. Great value for money!

We had a great week at Gut Altona Hotel, it was a shame we were able to extend our time at this property. Service and staff were very friendly, breakfast and dinners were one of our favourite meals to have eaten whilst being in Germany for the last 5 weeks. We will definitely be coming back and staying here. Only negative, the Wifi wasn't strong in our room to be able to connect too.

We did not stay at the hotel but had a dinner reservation at the restaurant. Rating the restaurant is a bit challenging. On the upside, the location was superb, the staff was extremely friendly, and the food was both good-quality and delicious. The menu offered a wide range of vegetarian and even vegan options, which is a notable plus, especially for the region. However, there were some downsides. The waiters were not very knowledgeable about the dishes and couldn't recommend wines from the extra wine menu. We ordered a 2020 wine but were served a 2021 vintage twice, with no response from the staff after we mentioned it. Pricing was another issue; while the food was good, it felt overpriced for what we received. The truffle pasta was a bit thin in sauce or truffle on top. Another notable example is the double espresso, priced at €4.40, which was made from a fully automatic coffee machine rather than a traditional sieve carrier machine. And even on a sieve carrier it would be too high priced. In summary, it's a great place to enjoy with friends and family, albeit a bit pricey. The value for money is not quite there. Still, it's worth visiting to see for yourself.
