A great resort, family and dog friendly. We stayed in a lodge with private hot tub. Each lodge seemed to have a good amount of privacy and a little indoor space enough for the dog. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The lounge was very comfy for hanging out. We didn't need to use the log burning stove but imagine it would be nice in colder weather. The restaurant with the roof top bar was nice right next to the kids playground. The kids did the laser tag and archery along with making use of the tennis court. Portreath itself is lovely and a short 10 to 15 min walk down through the woods. The beach in town is beautiful. Dogs only in the morning and evening though. There are other all day dog beaches closer to newquay. Redruth is nearby for proper supermarket etc. All in all a great holiday and will come again or try the same resort brand elsewhere in the southwest.
Amazing weekend with friends. The facilities were fantastic. Hot tub and wood burner ready added to the atmosphere. The lodge was clean, spacious and very well equipped which included dishwasher and washer/dryer. Really impressed and will definitely repeat!
Repeat Visitor – Lovely Stay with Some Room for Improvement I've now stayed at Gwel An Mor twice, each time in a different type of accommodation. First, in one of the Scandinavian lodges, and most recently in a pet-friendly Signature Lodge. Both visits have been enjoyable, and the location itself is beautiful. The staff are absolutely brilliant, friendly, helpful, and always willing to assist with anything needed. The lodges do have a luxury feel, and the setting is peaceful and relaxing. However, cleanliness has been a noticeable issue on both occasions. There are signs of wear and tear that let the standard down a little, and some areas could really do with a bit of TLC to maintain the high-end experience that Gwel An Mor aims to offer. (Photos attached for reference.) One big plus is the complimentary access to the sauna and swimming pool, it’s a lovely feature and definitely adds value to the stay. That said, the overall experience doesn’t quite feel five-star, especially when staying during peak season. I’d still recommend Gwel An Mor for a short break, especially out of peak season when the prices are more reasonable. It’s a relaxing retreat with some great features, but there’s room for improvement in terms of upkeep and attention to detail.
