We stayed at Gyokuhokan for two nights in March, during the Kawazu cherry blossom season, and the experience was wonderful. The ryokan is located next to Mine Onsen Daifunto Park and is just a short drive from Kawazu Station, with a convenient complimentary shuttle service provided. It is also a short walk to the Kawazu River, where rows of cherry trees stretch for about 4 km along both banks—a breathtaking sight during full bloom. The ryokan has a serene garden with its own cherry blossoms and beautiful landscaping, creating a peaceful atmosphere. The service was excellent. The staff were attentive, warm, and genuinely helpful, ensuring our stay was both comfortable and memorable. We stayed in a detached villa-style room, which was spacious and tastefully designed. The room had an open-air hot spring bath with free-flowing, high-quality onsen water. The beds were cosy and comfortable. We also enjoyed the private baths, including one in the main building with a spectacular view of the geyser at Daifunto Park, which erupts hourly. Both the kaiseki dinner and breakfast were delicious and beautifully presented, prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The dining room overlooked the tranquil garden, which enhanced the entire experience. Overall, our stay at Gyokuhokan was wonderful. If we return to Kawazu, we would gladly choose Gyokuhokan again.
Amazing Ryokan stay!! We stayed during the cherry blossom season so it was pretty expensive but overall worth it. We booked the package that came with dinner and breakfast. The only thing is if u don't drive, check out is strictly at 11am and the shuttle car will bring u to the station so you can't really walk around. It's about 10 mins away from the train station but quite close to a street of Sakura trees. The service is good - you are given a drink and snack upon arriving. There is also a free drink coupon for you to use at their quaint bar which brings you back to 1970s. Not much cocktail options but the retro vibes is 10/10. They have private onsen rooms for you to book as well. Would definitely visit again!
Truly amazing stay, one I will not quickly forget! Beautiful location. The rooms, gardens, and onsens were all incredible. All the meals were top notch with great service. 100% recommend, was a highlight of my entire trip to Japan.
