H4 Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz

The staff, cleanliness, and sauna of the hotel have all been great. The location is central, with several nearby food options, and easy access to monuments or tour-guides (I recommend looking at Big Bus tours, which are a 4-minute walk from the hotel).

The staff was very friendly and helpful, unfortunately the room wasn't so nice. Carpet and cushions can only be described as filthy (see pictures). Bathroom and bed seemed clean, but the overall feeling doesn't make you feel comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was weak and the temperature fluctuated a lot. Aircon was great and strong even at 30+ degree days. Nice that it also had actual blinds to keep the heat out of the room.

The room had a terrible smell. It smelled of an old unwashed man. Dirty carpets, dirty towels, holes in bed linen. Overall cleanliness leaves much to be desired. I appreciate it that after my complaint nice staff gave me a different room, but that new room was smelly as well, I figured it was because of the bad air conditioning system, and I guess old untended carpets also contributed to the problem. In the new room the towels looked clean, but they smelled of fried patties. Overall, it was an awful experience, it was hard to breathe with the air conditioner on as it made the room stinky and humid. That's why I decided to refrain from using it. Luckily, the temperature outside did not exceed +30°C during my stay. This is definitely not a 4-star hotel!!! It barely deserves even 1 star.
