Great location in the Gaslamp district (like literally right there in it), so if you like to party of you're in town for a convention, this is the place to stay. The room is very comfy, but I stayed in the massive "Presidential Suite", so can't speak to the other rooms. I will say, the room is far, far too big for one person but my company paid for it. You could really fit a whole family plus friends in there. The pool is a bit small, but surprisingly few people were using it so it was not a big deal. I did not check out the fitness room or any other amenities, so can't speak to that. I will say the staff and service was great and they helped me navigate the city with easy instructions.
The hotel and surrounding area were great, and the check-in process went smoothly. However, I encountered a serious issue regarding undisclosed charges. I booked the hotel using my credit card, and at no point during the booking process was I informed about approximately $40 per night in city charges. I also wasn't notified about these charges at check-in. Several days after my stay, I noticed the additional amount had been deducted from my card. When I called to inquire, I was told these were city charges—but this was the first time I was hearing about them. Prior to this stay, I had stayed at another Hilton hotel in the same city, and in that case, all charges were clearly communicated during the booking process, so I had no issue paying them. What made this situation worse was the unprofessional response from the staff. When I pointed out that I had not been informed about the charges, the receptionist was rude, eventually hung up on me, and bluntly stated that I would be charged regardless. Let me be clear: I have no issue paying any authorized or legitimate charges—as a frequent traveler, I understand how hotel billing works. But I expect transparency and proper communication. It’s unacceptable to be charged without notification and then be treated dismissively when asking for clarification. The staff is friendly enough—as long as you don’t have any concerns. But if you do, be prepared for poor handling of the issue. For a hotel in this price range, I expected much better service and accountability.
Location is phenomenal and the photos don’t lie - the room is beautiful. However, we couldn’t get the room to cool below 71°. We called the front desk multiple times and requested someone to come look, but that never happened. No one came to look at or fix the AC. It was uncomfortably warm to sleep, and even more disappointing that our requests for assistance were ignored.
