I’m not one to usually review my hotel stays but boy was this hotel good! I was a guest with my family in the ocean front makai tower! We had an awesome experience from the start with the beautiful drive into the private property oasis of Waikoloa. From the start we were treated with cold waters (much needed) and an efficient check in! The tram was consistent enough, not so much the boat but this is due to the renovations I think, but it’s a great idea because the property is huge. The pools are great, I would recommend swimming early morning if you want it more peaceful swim, the only 2 real small downsides for our family was the dated rooms but they were very large and the vanity space was good, it was not amazing but it worked for our 2 night stay especially since you aren’t in the room much. The other downside was the lack of middle of the road family friendly dinner options. The lagoon bar is amazing for lunch, super chill overlooking the dolphins but it’s not open for dinner instead you have two restaurants, a nice Italian which we did one night for a pizza takeaway which is yummy and a very expensive steak place both of which isn’t great coming off a currency that we have to double every price. Instead the other nights we dined down at the queens market place at a deli called Island gourmet markets which was delicious and much more affordable. Overall I would recommend this place especially for other families!
Look, don't get me wrong, this place is super beautiful... Perfect location, has a lagoon with sea turtles and even sting rays. They also have a dolphin area as well which you can setup to meet and swim with, but its expensive. They have a Kona Brewing bar on the premise in the lobby, and at least one coffee shop and a nice restaurant that overlooks the lagoon at sunset. The tram is probably the worst part of this resort.... It sounds like you entered a Jurassic Park every time because it screeches SO LOUDLY non stop through each stop in the resort..... You can actually walk almost faster than the tram. There used to be two trams running, but it takes what feels like 20-30 minutes each way, so you really have to get lucky for it to go the way you need it to.... The rooms aren't bad, the views are amazing, and each floor has ice machine, water station for bottles, and a microwave. The fridge is a mini fridge, there is no bathroom fan, and the bathroom mirror is really nice. The shower is okay, its small, but the shampoo and conditioner and body wash smell amazing, and they are local. All in all, beautiful resort..... But needs some major renovations, it's definitely looking it's age now, and you can hear it with the tram.
Beautiful resort. We stayed both in the ocean tower and Makai tower. The rooms were all very nice and updated. You can only set the AC to 68 at night, which may seem cool enough, but definitely not for this girl. Also wish they had a bar on the water. Beautiful location for sunset though. Staff was exceptional. We had Gene take care of our luggage in between location and he was great, he is hatted with us and gave us some great recommendations.
