Holiday Inn Ankara Kavaklidere by IHG

Next door to hospital, restaurants 2 block walk. Dangerously slippery shower pan. Old, soiled carpet in room. No aircon for cooling hot room on April 1, too much street noise for opening window. Favored by our tour company.

Hotel would have gotten 5 stars: Nice rooms, nice bathrooms (you have to slide the blinds bar just right to get it to close), no padding under carpet, and it could be replaced but that’s minor. Oct visit but the air conditioning worked great! Dinner was delicious! Very friendly front desk staff! 3 stars removed due to the spa: traveling with a group and our wonderful guide told us certain amenities were complimentary. When we got to the spa, the older man tried to bait and switch us, saying a complimentary option actually came with required services at a high cost! When we went back up and told the front desk (and guide) that particular option was no longer available complimentary, they were all confused saying there was no cost, and called down to correct the old man. When we went down a second time, he was visibly agitated (due to the call from the front desk), when he held his stance of charging us, I turned back to the elevator to leave. He followed us and held the elevator from closing to yell at us saying I lied on him, saying I told the front desk that he kicked me out (I didn’t; I just told them he said services cost and wasn’t complimentary), he mentioned his age and said I had a bad attitude….worst he’s ever seen. Definitely very upset we weren’t going to spend any money there. My guide said not to go back, and that he would arrange services at our next hotel. (Which he did, which was a much nicer accommodation and nicer spa, which made for an amazing experience that made up for this disappointment). Again, nice hotel, just not a nice spa experience.

This hotel is not recommended. In peak summers, the air conditioning is not working in the rooms. Not just me but multiple rooms complained and the management response was "this is normal, is is not ideal but we cannot do anything". The shower and room share a glass panel with blinds that don't close. Zero privacy! The wifi keeps getting disconnected and you have to add credentials all over again to reconnect. Great location and decent service. But terrible experience overall. Not recommended at all.
