Holiday Inn Beijing Chang An West

Very nice hotel!! Really nice neighbourhood to stay in! We were upgraded from the regular room because of an IHG member “lottery”, so I recommend booking with IHG Membership if prices are reasonable (it was the cheapest place for booking for me) Friendly staff. Very nice food at the breakfast buffet! Metro Station “Wukesong” is nearby. Bus stop is nearby. I highly recommend getting a “Yikatong” for payment, you can return It and get full refund on deposit and balance.

It definitely deserves the 4 star rating. I stayed on the fifth floor in a king bed room. The room was comfortable. The shower, toilet and bathtub were three separate small compartments in the bathroom. The decor was tasteful. The room was pretty clean. Downstairs there was a small indoor pool,gym, and sauna. Everything I can ask for at this level. I didn't eat at the hotel restaurant so I cannot comment but from the look of it,it is well run. Staff were courteous. However, the surveillance was borderline intrusive. I came back with a friend one day to chat in my room and immediately got a call from the front desk, asking me to register my guest. I understand it could be considered a benefit to have such high security but there are always two sides to a coin. Overall, a good experience.

Don't expect air conditioning here. They will shut off AC for the whole building because they believe "some people will be cold" even when there is an adjustable thermostat in each room. Temperature was stuck at 26C (~79F) all day and night, their proposed solution was providing a noisy fan to push around warm air about the room. The room was hot, moist, and uncomfortable. Good central location though.
