Very nice hotel. Nicer than most hotels in Guizhou. Very new hotel. The rooms were very spacious and modern. However, they keep the lobby and hallways very cold in the winter. Even the dining areas were very cold (55 F / 12 C) making it uninviting, When I tried to bring a mug of already brewed sweet ginger tea from the lobby to my room (the lobby offers hot sweet ginger tea), I did not know that we were being watched by the front desk staff. Two front desk ladies promptly came towards us to warn us of not bringing the mugs of tea to our rooms. I tried to explain to them that all we wanted was to have a cup of hot tea in our room rather drink the tea in the frigid lobby. It was quite an experience to have these ladies pursue us to the elevator demanding that I hand them the mug over. There were no paper disposable cups for guests to help themselves to hot tea and bring it to their room. I was very surprised this hotel is classified as a "Holiday Inn" from the IHG portfolio. Add to my bewilderment these mugs were of the most inexpensive kind. I was quite disappointed of the lack of understanding and finesse from the staff regarding this matter. This kind of customer service/treatment is backward, and I doubt this would happen in cosmopolitan cities like Shanghai. Aside from the whole mug ordeal, the staff was generally helpful. The other thing is even though the hotel has wifi, we could not access our WhatsApp and Line applications on our cell phone (it was very intermittent) and we could not access general news or google or google translate which was frustrating for us to communicate with family and friends and read news. This happened at the hotels that we stayed throughout Guizhou. However, after we returned to Shanghai, I had access to news and WhatsApp and Line.
