Holiday Inn York City Centre by IHG

Nice enough hotel, our room was a good size, and it was tidied even though we only stayed 2 nights. The check-in seems to be quite slow though, it was as if the computer system was making it more complicated than it should be. There's also a revolving door which is a nuisance as it's too small for the job.

The two stars are for the proximity to the city centre. The breakfast was disappointing considering the amount paid. The fried eggs were solid, on both days, we were there. However, I asked for fresh and they were sorted. The only fruit available was tinned fruit salad and the yoghurt was in a big basin; no individual yoghurts. The noise in the breakfast room was extremely loud with people shouting from one table to another as there was a big party of guests, and the long life milk, in the room was curdled. There was loud talking outside of our room on the first night at about midnight, but on our second night there was a full blown argument with swearing at 1.40am. I contacted reception to ask them to intervene and the receptionist told me that he had just booked the couple in and would sort it. Surely, the receptionist should have requested this couple to be quiet, when going to their room, considering the time of the morning. Overall very disappointing

I would like to review the rooms but since the hotel does not garantueed flexible reservations and chooses to just cancel valid reservations I was not able to see the room. Called the hotel and the people on the phone were utterly useless and spoke barely understandable English. Very strange for an English speaking country. I spend many stays in IHG hotels all over Europe and never have been treated this way. I would higly recommend to book another hotel in York. Stayed in the Moxy hotel in York city center, very nice boutique type hotel !!!
