We dined at the h&g for my birthday. Didn't get off to a fabulous start as their system had lost our table booking (ironic after their frankly over the top email threats of £75 per person charges for any hypothetical non-arrival or late changes). However, luckily they still had room for our party, and the rest of the experience was fantastic. service was attentive and friendly. They had a couple of very nice nonalcoholic cocktails (the elderberry cooler was my favourite). We shared some fried pickles and taramasalata while thinking, then I had the heritage tomatoes for a starter and a satisfyingly cheesy soufflé for main, some fries to accompany. All excellent. We were there for a couple of hours all told. A very pleasant meal

We have stayed here before but now we found it even better than before. Lovely large room overlooking the garden. Evening meal was very good indeed with a huge choice on the menu and the breakfast outstanding. All staff were very friendly. We will be back!

Nice pub with welcoming staff. Good beers and a lovely garden with views. Have been visiting for thirty years under different management. My last meal there was awful and at the top end of the pricing scale for pubs in the area. Not sure if it has changed hands or new chef, but the meal was embarrassingly bad. So, three star, but for staff, drinks and garden I would give five stars. For food one star.
