We’ve stayed at Hoshino Resorts Risonare Tomamu a couple of times now — loved it during the ski season, and equally enjoyed coming back during the summer months to experience the incredible Unkai Terrace. The staff here are wonderfully well-trained and deliver exceptional service with a genuine sense of hospitality. It never feels forced — just natural, warm and professional. One of my favourite little touches is their beautiful library space where you can sit back with a book, enjoy the floor-to-ceiling forest views, and sip on a surprisingly good sparkling wine offered as a welcome drink from 6pm. They’ve done an outstanding job of making Tomamu a destination even in the summer months. Watching deer roam around the grounds adds to the charm, and the surrounding nature is simply stunning. The restaurants are also a real highlight, with a clear focus on fresh, local produce — every meal we’ve had has been excellent. If I had one small critique, it would be that they really need to clean their carpets in the hallways a little more frequently — there was a noticeable musty, mouldy smell each time we exited our room. That said, it’s a minor blemish on what is otherwise a fantastic resort. Whether you want to be out and about or just sit back and soak in the scenery, this is a beautiful place to do it. Highly recommend.
My Amazing Experience at Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, Hokkaido! Hoshino Resorts Tomamu in Hokkaido is absolutely incredible! Everything—from the resort facilities, to the food, to the service—was top-notch. The swimming pool was spacious, comfortable, and beautiful. Our room was huge with a lovely view, and the entire resort was spotless. The food options were incredibly diverse, offering a wide range of choices. My only regret was sleeping in and missing the Unkai Terrace (Sea of Clouds Terrace) activity in the morning. I definitely want to come back in the future, and I hope to experience the skiing next time! Highly recommended!
We had the best stay. This resort is excellent and is ski in ski out which we loved. It was my 9 and 6 year old first time snowboarding. The lessons were excellent and they picked this up by day 2. Much faster than I thought it would take. Japanese and western rooms were both great and the dining options are excellent. We will define back to ski in Japan.
