Hotel Alda Mercado de Zamora

We stayed for 2 nights in what is now part of the Galician Alda Hotel Group. This beautiful Art Deco building is situated right in the centre of Zamora opposite the Central Market and within easy walking distance of all the main attractions. The rooms are comfortable and atractively decorated. I hardly ever wear a tie these days but was amused to find a complete tie rack in the bedroom cupboard (see photo!). The staff are charming and helpful. Breakfast in the basement is a rather peculiar affair which has been contracted out. Recommend one of the two cafés on the market square which make their own 'churros' and serve good coffee at half the price.

The rooms are neat clean and quite nice but nothing majorly beautiful, on the other hand I don't know the other hotels in the area if they are better maby wors. Service in the room you have nothing besides the towels and the sope on the shower wall, yes they have a blow dryer, and a refrigerator, You can drink the tap water but doesn't taste good, they don't provide you with a bottle of water, coffee or tea, no hot water kettle to make a coffee tea or a soupmix, they have a restaurant but that is not open for a coffee or so to early, so if the receptionist which is there 24/7 is nice enough she will make you a coffee even if it's closed otherwise you will have to really plead for a coffee maybe he'll make one for you. The stores in the area (theirs a lot of them) are usually closed from 14h to 16h and close late at 20h

Nice room only the carpet was very stained, smelt horrid when we walked in, Normally I never wear slippers in a hotel because the floor is very clean, but here my slippers were worn. 4* hotel should have it's carpets cleaned at least every 12 months. This was years of staining. Noisy Aircon and needs updating generally. Asked to change room and as always got told we are full. Same old chestnut!!
