Hotel Alex: A Mixed Bag of Comfort and Inconvenience Staying at Hotel Alex can evoke a mix of feelings, and here’s why. 😌 A Convenience and a Catch While the location is quite secluded in a small suburb town, it’s not all bad news. The saving grace is a supermarket just a short walk away. Do check the opening hours before heading over, as they’re limited. It’s a small but significant convenience in an otherwise isolated area. 😕 Loneliness in Seclusion For those seeking shopping malls or entertainment within walking distance, prepare for disappointment. Apart from the supermarket, there's literally nothing else around. 😊 Two Wings, Two Experiences Hotel Alex has two distinct wings: the older wing and the refreshed wing. The older wing features open balconies, making it a better choice for smokers or anyone who enjoys fresh air. On the other hand, the refreshed wing offers newer rooms and amenities but lacks balconies. 🤗 Friendly Faces One of the bright spots is the reception staff. They were incredibly friendly and helpful, making our stay more pleasant. This warm welcome can make a big difference, especially when you’re feeling the weight of the hotel’s less ideal location. 🍽️ Shared Spaces Breakfast on level seven was a decent experience. The hotel shares its space with both long-term residents and tourists, giving it a mixed, homey vibe. In conclusion, while Hotel Alex offers a comfortable stay with helpful staff and decent amenities, its remote location can be a significant drawback, especially for solo travelers. If you’re traveling with a group or have your transportation sorted, it might be worth considering. Otherwise, the seclusion could make your stay less enjoyable.
The room i got was fantastic, it was big like a suite. Meanwhile, my parents got the absolute smallest room ever. It can only fit either a full or a queen sized bed, and that's it. They can not even open their luggage in their room. They have to migrate their luggage into mine. It was like a dormitory room. I have no idea why that would happen because my room is great. One night, my parents locked themselves out from their room and called help, but no one answered. The reception wasn't there. No one was there at ALL. The service was extremely bad. We waited for 1 hour, kept calling the receptionist, and waited in the lobby. Since no staff is there at all, we decided to call the police and then police called the hotel. I believe the hotel owner eventually came to the hotel and opened the room. They should've had receptionist 24 hours because what if someone locked themselves out? I heard they only work from 9/10am - 11pm.
The worst and rudest service we have ever encountered in any hotel. Due to the floods in Zermatt, we had to look for another accommodation nearby, and we were certainly happy that we found one, even though this hotel was also compeletely packed. In addition, we got an entire apartment to ourselves instead of just a room, which was of course a big plus. However, at 11pm I noticed the fridge wasn't working properly and I needed it to preserve mother's milk overnight for our three month old baby. I tried to call reception, but the phone didn't work. I also couldn't walk to the reception from inside the building because I didn't have a required electronic key. I walked outside to the main door and noticed that the reception was completely dark. I called the door bell, and explained politely my issue to the lady who answered. She first claimed that the fridge isn't the part of "standard equipment", as if it isn't a normal amenity in every hotel room. Then she said bluntly that nobody else ever had the same problem as me and rudely hung up on me. The fridge problem itself was solved when I understood that only when its dial was at the maximum setting, marked as freezing, it actually started to cool a little. Next morning I wanted to leave a complaint about the inappropriate behavior. The same lady was at the reception and started to blame me that I tried to contact reception so late (as if 24 hour reception was something exceptional) and that I was strange because I wasn't grateful to them and happy like everyone else. Safe to say, we're not gonna set our foot to this place ever again.
