Hotel Althof Retz

Very nice and pleasant experience. Every time we come, the place feels better. Professional and welcomming staff, excellent cousine, very vood selection of wines. Nice and modern welness. Very good place to relax. Rooms are big and clean but some of them would deserve little reconstruction.

We booked the hotel for an extended weekend vacation - breakfast & dinner inkluded. The hotel can be easily reached, either by car or - in our case - via train (it's a cosy 10 minutes walk from the station to the hotel). A big plus of course is the spa area, in which we especially enjoyed the top roof pool (nice view on the old mill BTW). The saunas themselves also where nice & the smaller, extra hot one a welcome exchange from other spa hotels we've been to. However, what baffled us, is the decision to make the walkway by the saunas quite narrow. Since it was quite busy during our stay, it was a bit annoying due to the lack of space in that specific part. The rooms are reasonable big & clean, although the part we were in rather reminded us of a college dorm rather than a hotel. The walls aren't very thick, so you might get to know your neighbours more than one would like. Also, due to the size of the hotel, navigating can be a bit confusing at first due to unfortunate placement of the signs, where to find which room. The breakfast/ dining room is alright with one part clearly being the cosy one - but unfortunately not the one we were in (there is the college feeling again). Breakfast & dinner offer a variety of food & a reasonable choice of vegetarian/ vegan option, although the latter is somewhat unimaginative at breakfast. One thing that really stood out for us was the quite small wine selection for a hotel of that size & age - not a lot of variety, a bit of a disappointment. All in all an OK getaway for couples without major highs & lows.

Family trip. The beds for the kids were not prepared (was done after a call at the reception, still that should not happen). The temperature of the water in the shower was not stable what was very annoying for our kids (3 and 5). And as for the beds, we did not have enough towels. The food was not really good hence overpriced. The room was cleaned though and the employees friendly.
