Lovely hotel! We stayed here for a week and enjoyed it all. My boyfriend and I were wondering if it was recently refurbished but it wasn’t! Just generally clean and well looked after. The only thing i would mention is the parking - it is €13 for 24hrs. We decided to park outside (blue lines) and paid for parking till 8pm - as it is free from 8pm to 8 am and we were out before then.
The highlight of this hotel is the exclusive dining option at the Tale restaurant. We ate here on a Saturday evening about 8pm and not many people around here seem to know about this recently refurbished restaurant, but it’s an absolute gem. The staff were genuinely attentive, and you can tell the chef puts real heart into the food. He came out to describe to us the preparation of one of the dishes. The setting is stylish and serene, with some lovely rustic touches, good lighting, and greenery that gives it a fresh feel. It’s a refreshing change from the usual and well worth a visit if you’re after something a bit special. It was difficult to choose, as it was all amazing but the highlights for us were the mushroom butter and the lamb. Many thanks to Humberto, the team and chef Ricardo. It was reasonably priced given the dining experience and quality of food. We got a discount voucher for 10% off at the reception of the Hotel as it was just opening.. A little out of the way if you’re staying in main Funchal area, but if you’re near the Lido. It’s got to be on the list of places to eat. As for the Hotel, Alto Lido is perfectly acceptable, clean, spacious rooms. All the Staff we met were helpful, friendly and multi lingual. Breakfast has a very good variety and selection, though can be noisy at peak times.
Terrible. Dirty rooms, reception team are rude and not interested. Service in general was poor. Building works happening in the outdoor pool area (no warning of this). Food is below par - buffet is repetitive and sickly. Entertainment is an old guy with a guitar and microphone every night. Interior and design of hotel is very outdated. Wooden slats in pool area have never been cleaned. Mould in our room. If you’re below the aged of 70 you will not enjoy this hotel. We have been saving up for this trip since November last year and feel we have been scammed. Hotel is closer to a 3 star
