Wonderful Family Stay at Hotel - Apartamentos Dunamar in Monte Gordo! Our family (2 adults, 2 children aged 8 and 3) recently enjoyed a fantastic week-long stay at Hotel - Apartamentos Dunamar in Monte Gordo this July. Overall, it was a very positive experience, and we would certainly recommend it, especially for families. Our apartment was spotlessly clean and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable self-catering holiday. While the decor felt a little dated and could benefit from an update, it was perfectly functional and provided a great base for our adventures. We opted for the stay-only option due to food allergies, which worked out perfectly for us. The hotel's location is truly excellent. There's a direct walkway from the hotel that leads straight to the beautiful beach in just two minutes – ideal for quick dips and sandcastle sessions! We also loved being within a 10-minute walk of numerous restaurants and cafes, and having a small supermarket nearby (which even stocked plant-based milks!) was incredibly convenient for essentials. We made good use of the on-site facilities. The underground garage was a huge plus for us with our electric car; charging was straightforward, and there were always plenty of empty chargers available (€8 per charge, regardless of electricity used, which was fair for the convenience). The laundrette (€6 for a wash, €6 for a dry) was also incredibly useful for keeping our clothes fresh throughout the week. We also had lunch at the pool bar a couple of times and absolutely loved it – the food was very tasty and the service was wonderfully quick! On the last couple of mornings, we decided to try the hotel breakfast, and it was really enjoyable with a great variety of food available. There was a slight discrepancy in pricing between the two days (charged for 2 adults and 1 child on the first day, and 2 adults and 2 children on the second), but it was a minor point in an otherwise pleasant experience. The staff were generally nice and helpful, always ready to assist. We did encounter a couple of reception staff members who seemed less inclined to engage, even when spoken to in Portuguese, but this was an exception rather than the rule. Our room had a partial sea view, which we paid extra for. While we could indeed see the sea from our west-facing balcony, it also overlooked an area where street vendors set up, which made us less comfortable using the balcony for relaxing. A small clothesline on the balcony would also be a useful addition, though the one over the bathtub was very handy for drying swimwear! Despite a few minor points, Hotel - Apartamentos Dunamar offers a fantastic location and excellent facilities for a family holiday in Monte Gordo. We had a great time and appreciate the convenience and comfort it provided.
First time self catering, stay at the Hotel Dunamar. Arrived at 1pm to be told room would be ready at 3pm. Didn't get the room passcards til 4:30pm. The room was slightly dated but usable with a functional kitchen with a kettle, hob, toaster, microwave and Krups coffee machine, 4 dinner plates, side plates, cups & saucers glasses and various sized cooking pots. The living space consisted of a sofa, dining table with 4 chairs, a separate bedroom with a wardrobe and safe. The Bathroom had a walk in shower, sink basin and a bidet. The TV stayed switched of for the length of the stay as it only catered for Dutch, German, Spanish and Portuguese, not one English Channel, not even a news channel. Did not use the restaurant so cannot comment on the food or service. The pool area was OK, not enough sunbeds, though no one rushed down to throw towels on then, we still managed to walk down and get beds at 10:30am. Reserving was not allowed and about 95% of people removed their towels when leaving the area. There is a very long sandy beach to the rear of the hotel and quite a few people used this instead of the pool. No landscaped gardens of flowers/palm trees around the pool area, just a large seating area near the pool bar. There is only a couple of minutes walk to shops bars and restaurants.
Beautiful location easy access to beach. Had half board breakfast had some naughty treats...a lovely sponge cake that melts in your mouth and crispy warm tarts 😀 Dinner was ok..being vegetarian options are always limited but enjoyed the soups.
