We had a wonderful stay overall. The hotel was in a great location, walking distance to lots of points of interest. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the amenities were excellent. We loved the dog friendly community and will have wonderful memories of our 21st anniversary and our first trip to Calgary. We would stay here again.

We got married this past weekend and stayed at Hotel Arts Downtown. My now husband and I had the suite with the pool balcony and it was absolutely amazing. We had room service the day of the wedding and ate on the balcony. We really enjoyed the music being played outside (there was no DJ this was just on the regular system). The room was great and there bathroom was stunning. I got ready the morning of and we had 9 people in the room. There was lots of room for hair and makeup and seating for everyone. We had ordered catering and the wet bar made a great place to put all of the food. What we thought was above and beyond was the turn down service. Coming back to the hotel after the wedding, our room was tidied and the food from catering was organized and dishes were dealt with. I don’t normally leave a hotel room as cluttered as we did, but wedding day antics got the best of me. Coming back to the room so clean made for such a relaxing experience. We would love to stay here again. :)

I really wanted to love this hotel, but unfortunately it fell flat in almost every way. I paid over $500 per night expecting an artistic, thoughtfully designed space. It's called Hotel Arts, so I was expecting an enchanting lobby- or a homage to Canadian Artists! Instead, it felt more like a dressed-up Hampton Inn with none of the charm or service you’d hope for at this price point. I specifically booked this hotel to celebrate my sister’s birthday by the pool, maybe I'm spoiled coming from California, but the pool is tiny, it's more like a communal bathtub, and it was hard to find our space inside of it to hang out given its size. Honestly, it would make more sense if it were just a giant hot tub. As we were pulling up to the hotel I also got an email saying my poolside reservation was cancelled. I called the front desk and they re-instated it, but given that was the whole reason we were coming, just a bit odd it would be cancelled like that. The poolside server didn’t seem to know anything about the menu, and when I asked the woman working at the Freestyle Social Club if they could do something small to acknowledge my sister’s birthday, they said they’d check with a manager, but nothing ever came of it. The woman taking my reservation was so excited to hear it was my sister's birthday and said she would do something, but all that greeted us was a piece of paper saying "happy birthday". I was hoping with the excitement that we'd be greeted by a small treat or something a bit more above and beyond. I was really hopeful this would be an above-and-beyond experience, and instead it just felt… mid. If you can get this hotel for a decent rate, it's worth it for a good night's sleep or if you're bringing dogs. Just don't expect to feel like there's any celebration of the arts, and know that the pool is much smaller than you're imagining it to be.
