I attempted to publish this several years ago but just now am seeing that it was never published due to "low quality" of review. Well, that is the very first time ever in my life I have been told my writing is low quality haha! Usually people tell me I need to write a book because my writing is so good. So, I will attempt to publish this again because it is most assuredly NOT low quality. I booked Hotel AS after there was not one single availability on air b&b for the 3 nights in October I was looking for. An online search led me to Hotel AS, and I will never stay anywhere else whenever I return to my hometown of Zagreb. This hotel deserves 5 stars in every category: location, staff, food, comfort, room, attention to detail, tranquility. It is just the very best, and I cannot believe I got away with paying so little for so much! I walked to the hotel at the end of every day after meeting friends in the town center. It is a bit of a walk, but it was warm and I enjoy the exercise. It took me about 25 minutes from the town center, but I am a fast walker, so others might not make it so quickly. Still, it's a negligible distance from the heart of the town, though once you get there it's like you're in a beautiful woodsy parkland setting in the countryside. I'm only sorry I did not have a chance to explore around the area, because my cousins who live in Zagreb told me there are some beautiful walks there. The hotel is lovely to look at, and the inside is decorated and designed impeccably, with great attention to every detail, even down to the outlet covers on the walls. The vases of flowers and chandeliers are beautiful and add another high-end touch. There are several wonderful areas to eat, including an outdoor terrace, a glass-enclosed dining area, the grand dining hall for the breakfast, which was fantastic and, incredibly, included in the already extremely low price (for what you get). Although I could not find a single place to rent on air b&b, this hotel, as far as I could tell, was extremely quiet. I only saw one other couple at breakfast one of the mornings; at other times that entire wonderful, scrumptious buffet was all for me. I felt like Charlie in the Chocolate Factory! At one point, my cousins came to meet me and we sat at one of the lovely tables near reception and entrance. As we were sipping our cappuccinos, a group of several men walked in. I had no clue who they were, but my cousins told me it was the President of Croatia and his entourage! I tell everyone the story of how the President of Croatia was the only person in the hotel except for my cousins and me. The man should be re-elected, he knows what's worthwhile. My room was a deluxe, and it actually, really, truly was a deluxe room. Often I have booked "deluxe" rooms which did not live up to the name, but this one had a huge bed, a beautiful view onto the foresty landscape, lots of room and a big bathroom with marble and 2 sinks, plus wonderful products. I slept like a baby in the peace and quiet in the bed, which was just the perfect amount of firm. In addition to the hotel itself being fantastic, the staff could not have been better. The owner, Zlatko Skelin, was on hand several times when I was at reception, ensuring everything was up to snuff (it more than was, you don't have to worry, Mr. Skelin). He is a very charming and affable man, and even gave me a complimentary glass of champagne. Thank you! The young man at reception, Ivan Tomšić, was so helpful, professional and friendly. I asked him to write down his name and the name of Mr. Skelin so I would know how to write them correctly in this review I was determined to publish, to give them and their wonderful hotel the credit they are due. I then promptly left the piece of paper in the dining room as I rushed out to my cab to the airport as I was leaving. Thankfully, the wonderful young lady who helped me in the dining room, Ana, found it immediately and raced out to bring it to me.
Nice hotel on the outskirts of Zagreb within walking distance to the city centre. From the outside it looks a bit like a public swimming pool and the hotel deserves a refurbishment in the next 5 years. The surrounding area consists of the hotel and the adjacent park. Check in is absolutely seamless, but the key has a tag that weighs maybe half a kilo. The rooms are large and spacious, pleasantly cool on arrival. Furnishings see pictures, style slightly old fashioned but in good shape. Breakfast was good, seemed to be good quality ingredients but could be richer. It would have been great if the staff were always present at breakfast and frequently refilled eggs and took away plates - this is more of a detail.
The hotel is very well located in Zagreb center and yet in the middle of the woods (a park) which will give you peace of mind and at the same time you're very close to the center that you can reach either walking or driving. The rooms are spacious compared to other hotels, with big windows. I really liked the very classic details of the hotel (heavy old keys, paintings, furniture..etc). The building is from inside is very classic, yet from outside is modern😍. The car parking is available and free. The breakfast finishes at 11 a.m., which is very convenient if you are on vacation and you wanna wake up late. Even during the last day, the waiter waited for us even more, and he was very kind and welcoming. The food was really good. The staff ( reception and restaurant) are really kind, friendly and helpful. There are few points to be taken into consideration, especially since it is ((a 4-star hotel)) 1. There was no kettle in the room. When we asked, they were very kind to bring a hot water for the baby, but kettle is really important to be in the room. 2. I asked for an ironing machine. Unfortunately, they don't have one !!! and even no laundry service in the hotel! I was really embarrassed as I had a flight the next day, and even the town laundries were closed on Sunday 😅 3. The room was very warm as AC was not On yet in April. I know it was cold outside but the room itself was really warm from inside. I had to open the windows and wake up early in the morning by the cars and the birds noise 😅💔. Anyway I really recommend to stay here
