Absolutely loved it. The staff was so great and the location is just beautiful. With the Oberstdorf allgäu card parking in town or taking the bus is free. It's a great spot to start taking a hike or a bike ride. It has all amenities needed included a wellness area.

Lovely hotel, good location, but a bit unorganised at times, and goodness do they need to learn how to deal with vegetarians! Bergruh is a lovely hotel. The staff is incredibly friendly (always using 'du/dich' and 'ihr/euch' over 'Sie/Ihr'), altho a bit submissive (which might be due to Bavarian culture). The way they handled the corona rules was impeccably lovely! Clear shifts in both dinner and breakfast, a buffet changed into neatly packaged, untouched clean sub-units to take to your tables, masks at all times and sanitiser anywhere. Well done! That said, they are a bit pleasantly disorganised at other times. They might forget orders, misunderstand you but be too polite to ask for clarification. The rooms are also a little too warm and stuffy and not suuuper clean (not bad at all, and it might be different in corona-times!), and the room's fridge was nearly useless. Additionally, while the location is great, that last kilometer uphill from the bus-stop, especially in raging sun, is terrible. Overall: a 4/5. Except: it's Bavaria, and even though they advertise they do, they do NOT understand vegetarians (and I really wonder what it must be like for vegans). There's always a vegetarian and a fish option (against two meat options, which they usually don't offer an vegetarian adaption for), but they get very repetitive and boring. In addition, they often replace a Vorspeise (appetiser) that has meat with the most boring salad. When we once suggested to use cheese instead, we had a salad with three massive cheese blocks, which was hilarious. Likewise they had a beef soup with a Maultasche (Bavarian filled ravioli-ish), and they gave us a vegetable bouillon, but, the Maultasche still had beef in it. Lastly, the breakfast options for vegetarians aren't too great. They don't give you any extra cheese, and from what I can gather the breakfast for vegans would just be dry bread with fruit and orange juice. So, they should really try and get their heads around vegetarianism, let alone veganism, and then it'd be awesome!
