The accommodation was basic but adequate. Rooms and hallways were clean and tidy, but there are a number of drawbacks. Reception is only staffed at certain times, so you have to collect your key card before 5 pm, and after that you rely on phoning for assistance. There is no car parking, although a local function suite (10 minutes walk away) provides parking for a fee. The air conditioning didn't do much, and as the windows don't open, the room was uncomfortably warm. The biggest issue was that the bar is trying to restyle itself as a nightclub, so don't expect to sleep before 1 am. There is no restaurant, so no opportunity for breakfast, although there are local coffee shops.
Stayed here multiple times over last 8 years when I visit Surbiton. Unfortunately it has been getting worse over time and last visit (Dec) has prompted me to look for alternatives for future visits. Here is why: 1. Now under new management which has decided to remove the buffet breakfast and without reducing price. So less value for money now. 2. Unlike on previous trips, they do not tag and store luggage for you. We arrived early, not expecting room to be ready, but hoping to store our bags. After pleading, they did store it in the disabled toilet but was made to feel like I was asking a big favour. 3. We always book the quiet rooms (and never had problems with noise from the bar/club) and in last year, it's been a bit of a lottery. Last room was OK but they are all getting a bit tired having not been refurbished for a long time. The previous room had signs of carpet mites. The positive is that the location is very convenient for the high street and train station. Overall I feel complacency has impacted the hotel and that they only really care about the bar/club.
Awful place. Imagine selling rooms about what is essentially a nightclub. There’s DJs going until the early hours and kids outside doing balloons. Very rough place generally and the rooms are tired too. Grubby carpets and no breakfast on offer any more. It worth the money despite being in a nice area. It’s a really shame and a waste of a potential asset.
