My wife and I took our family to Cartagena and Santa Clara hotel was recommended to us by a friend. This was an amazing experience. From the great quality service, to the family friendly atmosphere, we would also highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great time. It is close to the shops and restaurants and really felt like a home away from home. We absolutely intend to return to this hotel on our next trip to Cartagena!
We visited Cartagena for a family vacation (with friends and 4 teenagers in tow), and couldn’t be happier with our trip. The hotel staff was amazing (- especially Adris and Alejandro were super helpful!) Even before we left they went out of their way helping us arrange trips around the city and Rosario Islands. Location right next to the old city wall was also perfect. And equally important was the cleanliness of the hotel which was top notch, and combined with use of the pool/restaurant, and other luxuries at the Santa Clara it took the Bovedas to the highest tier!!
This place is nice enough if you get the right room. Or if you just get the room you booked. We booked the large family suite with two beds a sofa bed and two bathrooms on the top floor with a view of the ocean. It says so on the confirmation. We Never saw it. When we checked in the were polite and welcoming and escorted us to the worst room on the basement level and said ‘enjoy your stay’. So obviously we walked right back to reception and after some time and a manager they said oh, we are over booked. Wait…now that I’ve said something you admit you knew you gave me not only the wrong room but made no mention of the shift until the bellman took us to our room. Furious. So they could only give us two different rooms for the first night then moved us to the ‘correct room the next day, after 3pm’. Ok we were tired from traveling and we had a morning planned so settled but was promised a credit for the inferior room and the clearly different price not to mention the hassle and con game we were subjected to. Ok. So next day. ‘The room is ready’ we get our keys and we go check it out. A better room. Great view. Two bathrooms. But still only one bed and a sofa bed. It’s not what we reserves or paid for ! They were just so inconsiderate and never really acknowledged the hassle and the rip off. We again just tried to make the most of our trip. We loved the resort amenities access and the morning breakfast at the sister hotel next door. Loved the location. But just hated how dishonest they were and how inconsiderate they treated us. All in all, i would not return here just for the fact of how unprofessional and insensitive they were to travelers who made a good faith plan and commitment to their hotel.
