It's bitter sweet. I really liked the hotel and staff but out of 6 nights, we moved rooms 3 times. Our first room was amazing except the water in the shower was scalding hot. There was no way to get a cooler temperature. They provided another room for us. Then there were hairs inside the bed once we pulled back the comforter. Almost Like they didn't change the linens from the prior guest. Also, the room started to flood from the rain outside. So they moved us again. We started off in a great room and ended up in there least expensive room. Other than that, we really liked the hotel and the staff. Oh and we visited during their rainy season which was really neat to experience torrential rain. Better luck next time.
Generally speaking, this is a nice hotel - beautifully designed, clean (except for the two strands of black hair on the sheets) and in a great location. The adjoining restaurant has good food and the breakfast served there is well worth the optional upcharge. The room I stayed in (302) faced the stairs and had one tiny window, also facing the stairs to the upper level. This protected me from outside noise, it was very quiet, but also made for bad air circulation, leaving the room with a moldy smell of wet paint. I obviously couldn't leave the window or curtains open for the sake of my privacy, so I pretty much sat in a room that was probably designed to be a storage room - I felt like I sat in my mom's basement. The bathroom is ridiculously tiny, furthermore proving my point that this room was never intended to be a guest room - but I paid a hefty sum to sleep in it. The hotel has its lights on 24/7 and the curtains are no blackout curtains, so you'll definitely need an eye mask. If you consider staying in a suite: Don't. The suites are situated right by the courtyard and reception, which means lots of foot traffic and people sitting in the courtyard with their phones on speaker. Some employees speak English, others don't, but try to make you believe they do. I was baffled that at 9 AM there was no one around capable of speaking English. Considering the nightlynrate this hotel asks they surely deal with lots of international guests and should step up their game to have someone able to speak English at all times. I was very annoyed by that! I wouldn't stay here again if I were to return to Guanajuato, but that's merely for the fact that the bigger rooms with actual windows (and fresh air!) are located where outside noise would be a big issue.
Not happy with the maid service. I noticed that they don’t change your towels unless you request. Once I figure that out, I spoke to the front desk and requested clean towels. I reminded the front office twice before I left the hotel. When I returned the same dirty towels were in my room. No elevator had to carry my luggage three floors. Hotel is nice and most of the staff were nice too. Don’t know if I would return.
