We had a great stay at Hotel Colibri in Playa del Carmen as a family of four (two adults, two kids) for two nights. The rooms were very clean and just as described. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The hotel’s restaurant was also excellent — delicious food and very thoughtful service. The only downside is the loud music from nearby nightclubs and bars, which the hotel cannot control. It’s something to be aware of before booking. Still, we gladly give 5 stars for the overall experience.
On a positive note, the housekeeping service was excellent — very accommodating and left nothing to be desired. One of the ladies, in particular, delivered an outstanding level of service that truly exceeded expectations. The front desk staff — at least during the day shift — were also extremely helpful. I would especially like to highlight Héctor at the reception, who consistently went above and beyond the standard level of service. Whether it was polite small talk, local recommendations for restaurants and activities (which is especially important if you don’t speak Spanish and want to avoid tourist traps), or assistance with solving various issues — Héctor was always there to help. You are lucky to have him at this property. The other women working at reception were equally professional — thank you to all of them. Furthermore, and this is quite uncommon for the region, the hotel staff never pressured guests for tips, regardless of the type of service provided. This created a very relaxed and respectful atmosphere throughout our stay. The hotel itself is simple, but very clean, well maintained, and tastefully decorated. Overall, the exterior and surroundings offer a tropical and welcoming ambiance.
The location of this hotel is great, it's steps away from the main street where you can find shops and restaurants, which is super convenient. It is also right by the beach! However, if you are booking the cabana rooms, just know they are quite dark and you will need to use the lights even during the day. I was told by the staff that the rooms with better light wouldn't be better as you can hear the noisy clubs from them - so I didn't move. The restaurant has great food, I loved the continental breakfasts that were included in the room rates. There was A LOT of seaweed when I went, which is not the hotel's fault as it was all along the beach - just check if it is seaweed season before you book a hotel with the purpose of being by the beach, because it was totally inaccessible during my stay.
