Hotel Catania

Visited here for a couple of nights at the end of June. Hotel is a good location for the north bar attractions, and perfect for the open air theatre, just a short walk away - could even hear the music clearly from there the night we weren't there. Parking is tight and small, and fills up quick. Owners very friendly and happy to help, there's a small continental breakfast included with the room if you want it too. Rooms have everything you need, and are very clean and tidy, just what we needed to spend a couple of nights. No fridge but tea/coffee and a kettle. Shampoo etc. also provided for the shower. Overall a good stay, and will be back again if we see something at the Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

I’m writing this review to share a very upsetting experience that my husband and I had with Catania Hotel Scarborough. My husband made a reservation through Booking.com and had to cancel it due to a sudden medical emergency in our family. He submitted a Free Cancellation Request well in advance and tried multiple times to contact the hotel directly for support. When he finally managed to speak with a staff member named Sandra, she was shockingly rude and unprofessional. She refused to listen, hung up the phone in his face, and ignored all follow-up emails. The lack of basic courtesy and communication from the hotel was truly unbelievable. Even worse, Booking.com cancelled the reservation without his approval, and we were still charged ,all because the hotel failed to respond in time and showed no willingness to help. As a result, we lost money and were treated with total disrespect. We will never book with this hotel again, and I strongly warn others to be cautious, the way we were treated was completely unacceptable and deeply disappointing.

Instead of helping me resolve the issue or offering any flexibility or basic courtesy, I was left feeling completely ignored and disrespected. I was also charged for a stay I couldn't use — not because of my actions, but because of poor communication and careless service. I will not be booking with this hotel again, and I strongly advise others to think twice before staying here if you expect respectful treatment and professional service.
