An amazing place to stay in the heart of downtown Paso Robles. Everyone on the staff was welcoming and made my wife and I feel right at home. I loved reading and spending time in the common areas by the fire. There’s also a library space with candy! Stick around in the evening when they make complimentary s’mores!
Hidden gem! Beautiful courtyard & sitting outcoves throughout. They have nightly customized s'mores & a library with but only books but a candy bar too. Bedrooms are cozy, clean & filled with the necessary amenities. Breakfast at the Pony Bar are made to order. They also have custom coffees on request. The employees are wonderful & so helpful! Will come back again!
We stayed at Hotel Cheval this past weekend. Leading up to the trip, we had heard nothing but high praise, which set our expectations. Furthermore, particularly given the extraordinary cost per night, we were expecting a flawless stay. However, our expectations were not the reality. From the moment walking into reception, the receptionist was not warm and did not make us feel welcome. When we arrived a couple hours before our room was ready, she did not offer us water or provide assurances that our room would be ready as soon as possible. Rather, she simply dismissed us, not even asking for our cell phone numbers so we could be contacted when our room was ready. Once we received our room, the hotel placed us in a handicap room without any warning. Accordingly, the bathroom was equipped with handicap fixtures. Had we known, we would have requested a different room, particularly since we booked numerous months out. Next, the subpar breakfast. For a hotel that claims to have the calibre of the Hotel Cheval, breakfast was lackluster. All food is prepared off site and is lukewarm once served. Additionally, the hotel website prides itself on an elaborate coffee service, but we found ourselves waiting 40 minutes for cappuccinos that were 90% milk. The staff was inattentive, which forced us to get up and go find them when we needed something. Generally, the hotel did not have the aura that one expects for paying nearly $700 a night for a basic room in Paso Robles. There were not the occasional check ins from staff or the warm greetings that are staples of luxury accommodations. To say we were not impressed would be an understatement.
