Couldn't fault this place. Booked on the day, at last minute. Greeted by a friendly receptionist and all of my questions about where to eat etc were answered effectively. The hotel location is a little out of town, but only about 5 minutes drive. The bonus is private, secure and free underground parking. Breakfast was also great - a really well presented and complete buffet.
Don’t be deceived by the hotel’s location … the area is of modern bland looking apartment buildings and yet the hotel inside is fine. A stones throw walk to the centre, easy parking in the streets and plenty of bars/restaurants nearby. All staff are friendly, helpful and have the manners you’d expect to align with hospitality. Food is average and that’s including breakfast - no fresh juices (all concentrated). Bacon was fatty/ undercooked and scrambled eggs unappealing … There again most hotels in Spain don’t get the breakfast right…. nothing new there. The bread and chorizo was excellent though… Rooms with plenty of space and super clean. Location is easy to find because it’s right below the tallest building in Ponferrada. I think [locally] they call it the Tetris building … which shot up during Spain’s property speculation period back in 2005.
Lovely if it were a 3 star hotel. For a 4 star hotel, it lacks some things. Positive: Rooms were spacious and airy. It did have AC which was lovely. The bathrooms were large and clean. WiFi worked decently-ish. Did fail every 5 minutes and was very alow but hey, at least they have WiFi. Negative: They don't speak your language. If you don't know Spanish, good luck here. The breakfast was shallowly put together. And I would have never expected to hear that a 4 star hotel ran out of some items. The hotel does NOT have parking. The parking is on the street outside, wherever you find a spot. Good luck with that, too. I am outraged. This edit comes after paying. We were told breakfast was €4.95/person, by the receptionist, one hour before checking out. We were then charged €10.73/person, more than double than we were told!! For €30 (we were three people) the food was horrible, no variety, horrible coffee, and small "portions" - come on, you display THREE slices of tomatoes and FOUR slices of cheese?!?! Not to mention, again, they frigging RAN OUT OF FOOD. Come on. I've seen 3 star hotels better, nicer, cozier and more respectful towards their customers. I now understand why the price was so low - they probably do not have any customers :)) I do not recommend going here. I for one will never return and notify all my peregrino friends that this hotel is a scam ;)
