Hotel Diego de Almagro Punta Arenas

Stayed here in 2019 after my Patagonia W Trek. A stunning location and wonderful hotel with kind staff. Understanding and appreciating every destination shows the mark of a true traveller. I will always have fond memories of this unique hotel set in a its own time.

I'm not sure what passes as a 4-start hotel, but I think they are pushing that definition with this place. Regardless, the hotel has ample, below ground parking, a great breakfast/dinner restaurant, and decent pool. Nice rooms with good views of the water. I gave the room 3 stars because the shower had a lot of black mold in it. Their cleaning staff needs to do better.

This is not a 4 star hotel as it claims to be. I would generously give this hotel 2 or at most 2.5 stars. It is a most basic hotel with completely outdated rooms and public facilities. The “gym” is a tiny room with a few machines. The indoor pool was so murky during our stay that you could not see beyond the second step. The breakfast consisted of severely undercooked scrambled eggs floating in egg liquid, along with a few breads, pastries, and meats and cheeses. The rooms are VERY basic, with old furniture. The bed was comfortable with good pillows, and the bathroom was fine. The rooms were reasonably clean. There is no AC. Our windows only opened a crack, and the housekeepers closed them every day. The check-in clerks weren’t proficient in English and seemed confused by most transactions.
