I booked online directly with the hotel, but please don't do this if you do visit (use Booking.com or another site instead). Despite spending a fair amount of time checking all 4 guests in (in great detail I might add), our reservation didn't exist when we got there (and nobody seems to man reception so you'll need to find someone in the bar to help). Luckily they had space (in fact I'm almost sure we were the only people in the hotel). Rooms were clean (dubious glassware though) but dated and sparse. Decor is baroque so expect golden cherubim and crucifixes aplenty, along with the traditional wood elements. Not my taste but my one friend liked it. Note that their sauna and steam rooms etc. are not open on the weekends for some reason so you'll need to ask them. I did in (admittedly Dutchified-German) and was just told they were closed, with no possibility to open. My friend asked someone else and they said no problem, ready in 20. So service depends on who you ask I guess. Breakfast was okay. Was hoping for at least a little scrambled egg on the buffet but the only hot thing was soft-boiled egg (and a carrot soup, but not sure if it was hot or not), so that was a bit of a let-down. The Italian restaurant next door was superb though so proximity to that was excellent. Overall, will I go back? Nope. Will it work for others? Maybe. It'll depend entirely what you're looking for.
The hotel is very nice and clean with a beautiful view for mountains. But there is no privacy on a balcony because dividers between rooms' are extremely low, so you and your neighbors must hang out all together. I really hated lack of privacy on a balcony. I normally pay extra for having a balcony and nice view, but couldn't use my balcony because there were too many people sitting very close to me. Also they don't have A/C, and you can't even open your windows because you never know who of your neighbors can get inside your room (the same problem of extremely low balcony dividers). Definitely, hotel needs to improve balcony experience by installing high dividers
Where to start? Let's go for the good things first: -the room was very neat and tidy -the overall appearance of the hotel, despite being a little eccentric, is suited for a premium experience. Now let's go for everything else: - the spa, clearly to small for all the guests, holds at most 15 people comfortably - we went there with an organized trip, so a bus with 80ish people, we were promised the spa and despite being too small to house everyone, it was not even loosely prepared. Tubs were empty, the rooms were cold and no clear instructions were given to us and let's not even talk about the fact that the entrance was block by a giant dog statue that we had to forcefully move ourselves. -the restaurant experience was again a little unfulfilling, not because of the food (that was enjoyable), but for the service. Thet took too long to bring to us an overpriced cheap beer and during breakfast no restocking, so once a food was over it was gone for good. -our room, together with serveral else, was completely unheated, it was like entering a fridge, since outside was like -5C. When asked about it at the reception they said they were aware and they would look into it, and we stayed all night without the issue resolved. -one of our room was just cancelled out of nowhere. All being said I don't think this hotel should have 4stars not even maybe 3.
