Hotel Gendarm nouveau

It would have been nearly perfect if we couldn't hear the work going on downstairs, if the fire alarm didn't go off at 6.00am, and if as a compensation for this disagreement we could have had our two beers on the house. Also, we had only one key and because there was no one at the reception at midnight, my partner who was at a work event had to wait for 20mins downstairs until I realised that he was locked out. Lovely room otherwise.

Perfect location at the Gendarmen Markt. Right next to the chocolatier Rausch and in the opposite street side of the Hilton near subway station Berlin Mitte. This modern hotels has average sized rooms with high ceilings, mintemoorary design. Outstanding if small breakfast buffet that include salmon, range of specialty cold cuts, different traditional buns and bread slices, scrambled eggs, bacon sausage etc. Personable and friendly staff give this hotel a feeling of a well operated, local hotel chain of 3 hotels where employees feel deeply responsible and care. Price is very competitive, especially for this location, and about half of what the Hilton charges but still with a very comparable service and experience without the glamour of a grand hotel. No gym.

The hotel itself is lovely and the main rooms are also nice as well but be aware, when I checked in on my first day they had booked out my room to somebody else and I had to sleep in the basement next to the laundry room when I asked the manager if I could have a reduction all they offered me was a €10 off my bill. To have to sleep in a damp smelly room with no shower working for over €100 a night!!!! In my opinion it would not be worth the risk coming here as it happened to another couple the next day.....
