Superb, not cheap by Chinese Standard at $300/night, has oxygen pumped into our room, spotless, awesome food dinner and breakfast. Incredible view from the balcony, we stayed in two different room and had two size balconies both offered excellent view of the largest praying wheel in the world. Surreal experience. I took a pic of the porter/Tibetan extremely hard working needs to be recognized.
This hotel is incredible. Perched on a hill overlooking the ancient town, it offers fantastic views. The rooms are well-appointed, featuring floor heating, a humidifier, an air purifier, and oxygen supply. Our room even had a spacious terrace with stunning views of the ancient town, along with hot towel warmer cabinets and Dyson hairdryers. They also provide complimentary night snacks and desserts delivered right to your room. Breakfast is wonderful, with a wide variety of Tibetan dishes. The restaurant serves both Chinese and Chinese-style Italian cuisine—definitely try the yak hotpot!
Love the location of this hotel, it has this commanding view over the entire old town, quite easy to walk down to the old town, do call a taxi when you come back, costs about $2, too tiring to walk up the hill at 3300m. I want to emphasize the location because the taxi can take you from a back road to the hotel instead of through the old town to avoid horrendous traffic so it is really wise not to stay somewhere you will get stuck in the traffic as it is a very tourist place for the Chinese. I also wouldn’t stay outside the town like in Banyan Tree because a friend had a hard time calling a taxi to be picked up unless you want to spend a lot lot more getting to the sightseeing places and getting food. The hotel has a beautiful restaurant and lobby entrance but lacks facilities, no gym, swimming pool or spa or anything else. So if you are not touring, it gets boring being here. The room is on the small side but the mini bar is stocked for free ( only non alcoholic drinks). Book the restaurant early as you might not get a seat especially when the weather is bad and it is a high season. I was told to go down to town in the rain to eat because it was fully booked. They have a big menu but frequently they don’t have 50% of the dishes you want to order. All said, I would still highly recommend this place.
