Hotel Jugurtha Palace

Neat place, but smokey everywhere. Tunisians smoke way too much. Staff is excellent. Hotel must have been quite something in its hay day.

This place is utterly bonkers! Worth staying here just for the spectacle of it all but don't expect a comfortable stay or a good night's sleep. The building is fascinating, totally over the top and like it was built by someone off their head. I'd love to have seen it in its hayday. Think of a Tunisian film set of The Shining. Unfortunately the hotel is extremely run down and even for the cheap rates, it's hard to justify the money. My room had no heating whatsoever. And I was kept awake for most of the night by someone smoking and vomiting in the room next to me (I hate the smell of smoke). The food was awful. Lots of it but inedible. Similar to other reviews, the waiters chase payment before you've even finished. When I checked out reception asked me how my room was to which I pointed out the problems. The response I got was "well, next time". Jokers! If you get a chance I'd recommend a tour of the gardens and pools!

I wouldn't even take a second chance. This is more like an old retired museum than a place to stay in. I do not recommend it as it is now. I think this place can be a great hotel if ( and only if) it has been seriously taken care of.
