I was disappointed in this hotel. With the high reviews, I was expecting a lot more. Hotel Kapok is old and outdated. It was definitely time for a renovation. The room was old and wasn't cleaned to a high standard. The bathroom was a bit gross, with stains and dirt on every surface. I could also hear noise from the street and other rooms. Definitely not ideal. The hotel was also quite far from any train station - around a 15-20 minute walk which can be difficult with luggage The staff did speak good English and gave me a card with their hotel location in Chinese, along with a tourist map. This was incredibly helpful! Breakfast was the standard breakfast buffet. They did have a chef cooking fresh eggs to order which was a plus. When I checked out, I asked if someone could help me get a taxi to Beijing North Station. The lady requested a taxi, gave me a registration number and told me they should be there in 5-10 minutes. I stood on the street and had to get into a taxi who spoke no English. I wasn't sure I'd end up in the right place. Next time I'm in Beijing, I'll pass on Hotel Kapok and look into other options. It was just a little bit too disappointing.

I recently stayed at this hotel with my family for two nights. I picked this hotel based on its proximity to the Forbidden City in central Beijing. What I liked was that the location is very convenient, the room was large, and the staff understood English. This being said, the rooms are quite dated and there is a very musty smell as you walk around the central corridor of the hotel. Our room came with a King bed and a sofa bed. The main bed was great, but the sofa bed's design was strange... it felt as if you were sleeping on a wooden table - my kids ended jumping into the main bed with us at night. As well, I found a huge cockroach crawling around the bathroom walls as I was taking a shower... GROSS. This is a decent option if you are on a budget and want a nice central location - I will look into other options the next time I go to Beijing.
