Hotel La Tonnara

By far the best hospitality, service and food during our stay in Italy!! Great seafood, and waitstaff.

Spacious clean rooms with nice view, large bathroom, very friendly staff. Beautiful beach and sea.

We had a terrible 2 night stay at La Tonnara Hotel in Amantea. We were there in mid July when the temperature is typically around 35 degrees celsius. For some stupid reason they turn off the air conditioning at various times throughout the day. We did not know this at the time we booked. When we got into the room it was very hot. I called the front desk and advised them that the air conditioning was not working. The person on the phone said that the air was in fact working. Didn't offer any explanation or send someone to check. It wasn't until a couple of hours later when we were in the elevator that we saw a sign (see pic) advising us of the hours of operation for the air. This is totally absurd. Who would do this in the dead of summer?? We had a breakfast and dinner plan and the food was not very good. For dinner we had a first choice of some type of pasta dish which was not bad. Our second choice on the nights we ate there was meat dish, fish dish or vegetable plate. We took the meat plate which just came with a couple of pieces of chicken. No veggies or sides of any kind. Usually if you have a meat dish there are some sides included. In this case you could either get the meat or get the sides. The third choice was usually some type of salad. If I had known this I would not have opted for the meal plan as there are so many great options nearby (drivable). The location was great as they are directly across the street from a nice beach. We had chair rentals which included umbrellas and loungers however we did not get towels. When I go on vacation to Europe I don't usually bring my own towel with me. I found it strange as you would think they would be provided. The room we had looked like it was still in the 80's. Having said that, it did have very big window across the front that gave us an excellent view of the beach, sunrise and sunsets. The bathroom was also very spacious. Overall I was not happy with it and definitely would not stay there again.
