Hotel Lago di Como

Today we stayed and had an encounter with this hotel and they only thing I can say is that this is a great hotel to stay at. The receptionist andreea ad Elisa are extremely nice and pleasant to talk to. Especially because we arrived at late hour the were still outgoing and up with they’re energy they took they’re time to cater to our needs as well as possible. I recommend this hotel to anyone that wants an excellent service and loves to talk to nice people with pleasant energy. Book this place it really went above expectations!

Really nice hotel, if a bit rough around the edges in some aspects. We didn't really know what to expect as our stay here was part of a packaged deal, but we were pleasantly surprised. The location was great (just a 6-minute walk from Colico railway station), check in was smooth, the room very comfortable, and the breakfast surprisingly generous (standard continental fare plus eggs, bacon, arborio rice dishes, pancakes, cakes, etc.) Our standard room amenities were good (kettle, tea, instant coffee, toiletries, plenty of towels, hairdryer) and the only thing we found a bit lacking was some tourist information. Also, we only ate at the restaurant once as part of our "half board" deal, and although the food served was tasty, it lacked variety and the portions were a bit skimpy. For the rest of the trip we chose to eat our meals elsewhere, but perhaps the full menu of the restaurant has more options. All in all, we had a really good, better than expected stay at this hotel, and we were especially touched that they provided us with a free bottle of fizz for my husband's birthday. Thanks team!

Put into context, this is a typical hotel of the area. It's a little sparse and cannot be compared to other 4 star hotels in major cities. However the hotel and rooms were very clean and the staff were brilliant. We went in March just before the season starts and the only problem was the food. Little was prepared to order, it was either reheated or cooked earlier and kept warm. On one night, we were the only guests, so it's not realistic to have a full menu available. What would have worked is to ask us to choose our evening meal earlier in the day. There are very good lakeside cafes with views of snow capped mountains across the lake. Colico has fantastic rail and public bus transport connections enabling us to get about very easily. It's also very close to St Moritz and the red snow train. Bellagio, Varena, and Como were all within 30-60 minutes away.
