This is a beautiful old hotel with historic charm. The employees are always ready to assist with a smile. We really enjoyed the breakfast each morning! So many hot and cold offerings with delicious coffee. As other reviews have mentioned, there are some unsavory shops and people around the hotel. However the location is amazing for walking to dinner or shopping.
Had an overall pleasant stay here, but the hotel is quite old and the sound proofing is not great. I heard arguing several times from other rooms/outside. That being said, the service was very good and it is a beautiful hotel. Our room was large and mostly clean - some stains on the carpet and cigarette burns in the curtains were a bit off-putting. The bed is firm but comfortable. I would recommend it, but bring earplugs.
This is a 3 star hotel at best. Brussels has this accommodation issue (very high prices for not so high standard amenities) but this one really exceeds them all. I mean for 266 EUR/night you would expect to be able to sleep and not hear the neighbouring guest snore trough the night. Also, i would expect the management to be able to put a few bottles of water or whatever in the fridge. they are taking your card details when checking-in so the stealing probability does not exist, so i guess it's just a simple logistical problem that they are not able (or willing) to solve. Hotel is very old and it shows. Well, it shouldn't :) While you guys seem very proud of your building being 90 years old, you don't spend much on painting and bringing things to modern times. I wonder what the job of the guy sitting all day long on the "security desk" by the entrance is, as he seems always very busy daydreaming and not minding the guests getting in and out, not looking at them or answering their salute, but disappearing after 10 PM when the door is closed and the guest should use their room key to enter the hotel. I don't get this, there were some people who simply got no keys on them and were waiting outside... After going to the toilet, it is simply good upbringing and sanity to wash your hands. If you separate the toilet from the shower and sink bath area, do it all the way and put a tiny sink in the little room too. All in all, the hotel is situated in a good position, 12-15 minutes walk to Grand Place, 12 minutes to the North Train Station, close to shops, good breakfast, but the price could not be justified even if they were charging half of what they do.
