This hotel is truly something special. Fantastic staff, beautiful rooms, delicious food and huge swimming pool. So much history and great location. It really is a treasure. We really enjoyed our stay.

As a long-term traveler to Indonesia I can honestly say that this is one of the great hotels of Southeast Asia, a member of a select group of hotels built by the Sarkies Brothers. The buildings drip with period charm and writers as famous as Joseph Conrad are associated with this establishment. For colonial architecture and period charm, this place is peerless. But they could improve the offerings at breakfast.

A great pity… a heritage hotel that has lost much of its grandeur. Aged and the service is just a little short. Spa was pricey (compared to outside) but that’s fine because it’s a hotel spa. However, the service is not impeccable. Not up to mark to what a 5star hotel spa should be. I had to asked if we will be served ginger tea then was made to wait and still nobody attended to us. My husband and I just left after the treatment. The breakfast was just alright. A little missing for everything. Bread pudding had no vanilla sauce, bread station had no peanut butter and no matter what kind of eggs we ordered, they were very salty. The noodle station was slow and always the same. Toiletries in the room were average too. Nothing to scream about. There was some celebration on the main road and it was noisy from 9pm to 1am, making it impossible to sleep. To imagine that this is the same chain with Raffles Hotel in Singapore… it’s a far cry. For this price, you are better off staying in Vasa hotel or Four Points by Sheraton which is just across the road connected to the mall.
