Hotel Marad

This hotel was amazing! Incredibly helpful, friendly staff. We booked a sea view room and it did not disappoint! We had a breathtaking view of Mount Vesuvius and the Mediterranean Sea from our balcony. The room was very clean and modern. Sunset from the rooftop bar was also incredible. The pool area was beautiful, the pool was refreshing and clean. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel. Tips: If you arrive by train, call the hotel and they will send a taxi for you. We didn’t think of this and we had a long uphill walk. We also took a bus (5 minute walk to the bus stop from hotel) to Pompei for €3,60 per person. It was a large coach bus with air conditioning and we were the only people on the bus going there. It dropped us right at the gates to Pompeii.

I gave this rating because the room is poorly insulated, everything can be heard in the hallway. Unfortunately, children from the club were also in the hotel during our stay, (they were running, shouting, knocking on our door,... until 11 p.m.) For breakfast, the food is very basic (the scrambled eggs were cold). Although we paid for a renovated room, the room had a strange smell. One day there was no hot water. Good location, you are quickly on the highway, near Hercolaneum and Pompeii.

We booked this hotel for a short stay and were given rooms in the annex which were very different to the rooms advertised, the rooms were dated and basic and definitely not 4 star, complete con! Most importantly, DO NOT ask the hotel to book the local taxi firm, we asked the manager to book a taxi from the hotel to Sorrento (one way only). He clearly wrote €70 cash and €80 credit card. I confirmed this with him and said we would pay by credit card. We got dropped off at our hotel in Sorrento (21 miles) the the taxi driver charged us €180!!! I asked him to call the hotel and speak to the manager, I had the piece of paper showing the price, the manager denied ever writing the price and said he had quoted €180!!! Dodgy and untrustworthy.
