Mari Mari is a remarkable place. Our visit there was a memorable one. The setting is amazing and the property is fantastic. But most importantly, the staff is truly exceptional. Truly exceptional (worth saying twice). Their warmth and hospitality made our visit to Mari Mari especially wonderful. And the food...so good. We spent the days with our guide touring the property on foot, boat, and kayak. We spent our evenings enjoying the incredible views from the main lodge, the mixology of Paulo at the bar, and the amazing food and wine. I can't say enough about our experience. The photos below don't do the beauty of the property justice (the photo of the view framed by the window was the view from our villa).
Just returned from a 9 day stay at Mari Mari. The entire staff is at your service. Attentive, but never intrusive. The natural landscape is breathtaking and seems almost completely untouched by humans. I was traveling with 4 of my girlfriends. We had a spacious 4 bedroom villa w/ full kitchen, dining room and living room. The villa was completely secluded. All bedrooms had sweeping ocean views, seating areas, luxury bed linens and en suite baths. Our villa had Wi-Fi, which is remarkable given how remote this place is. Our villa’s wood-fired hot tub was built into the cliff overlooking the ocean! To get around, we had access to a “prowler” which a cross between an ATV and a golf cart. We usually walked or used the prowler, but a staffed SUV was always on standby to drive us anywhere. We did not have our children with us, but this place is family friendly. Our Nov/Dec trip was sunny 55-65 degrees F. Bring sunscreen, waterproof boots, a raincoat and dress in layers similar to spring skiing. Lodge attire is resort casual. However, if you just finished a hike, it is also acceptable to dine in hiking attire and boots. Our guide for the week, Macarena, was knowledgeable and very easy to be around. She took care of every detail for the excursions. She even arranged some mid-hike treats, but I’m hesitant to spoil the surprises for you. Macarena shared that she has led hikes for guests of all different abilities, some avid outdoor enthusiasts/runners, others more interested in a leisurely pace learning about plants and wildlife. The activities are plentiful! Ride horseback on the beach and trails; penguin boat excursion; hiking in dense forest and on rocky shorelines; hunting for fossils on a riverbank. There is a full service spa for treatments, an outdoor swimming pool, a gym and conference room. You can request a cooking or mixology lesson. Some guests come for birdwatching. We took a day trip to Puerto Varas, accompanied by our guide; it was a spectacular day (waterfalls, hiking a volcano, shopping, craft beer restaurant). Guests can also canoe down the river, sea kayak and go on fishing excursions. The food is outstanding!! Try the Daniela’s tuna. Ingredients are local and fresh; greens come from the onsite farm (you can visit the farm). Fish is harvested on property by local fishermen. Sommelier pairs each course with memorable wines. The chef shares recipe origins and highlights cultural significance of ingredients. Prefer a tasting menu or family style? Share your preferences; the staff was all ears. Some days we lingered in our villa all morning missing breakfast. In response, our villa’s fridge was stocked with meats and cheeses, fruit plates and fresh muffins – without us even asking. Our experience at Mari Mari was unforgettable. Every detail of our stay was personalized just for us. Already planning our return… Tip: One person in our group was happy to have Dramamine on hand for the ride to the resort and the penguin excursion.
We were drawn to Mari Mari primarily by their heavy promotion of their Ocean and River activities - whale/dolphin watching, boat rides, snorkeling, kayaking on the river etc. We quickly discovered that the ocean is quite rough and the coast guard shuts down water access on most days of the year. They know this but fail to mention it. There were just 16 days allowed the previous year per their guides. We couldn’t get in the river either due to water levels and limited kayaks. We had 5 prepaid nights over New Years Eve in 2022 and never once set foot in the water. After 4 nights we asked to check out early to move to another place. At the time there was agreement that one night would be refunded which seemed fair, This was reinforced by many emails sent on behalf of the owner to my travel agent. To date they have not refunded that one night and seem to be hoping that we will stop asking. I find this unacceptable for a premier property. The one star review is for their lack of integrity in resolving this matter and the misleading promotion of their water activities. We had no issues with the rest of the stay. The location is objectively beautiful, the service and food are very good and we enjoyed the equine program and the hikes. There is a helicopter ride (not included) which showcases the rugged coastline and was a highlight of the trip. I will update this review if they ever choose to follow thru on their commitment.
