My family has been going to Hotel María Cristina for over twenty years and I had the pleasure of going recently for the first time in a while. Although there are some parts of the hotel that are a bit outdated (some of the rooms could use some updating), the hotel itself is beautiful, especially the garden and the reception area, and I think that adds to the unique charm of the hotel. However, the ultimate reason why I love this hotel and will continue to come back to it for the next twenty years is the staff—everyone was so warm and friendly as I remembered them from my childhood, and took the time to ask us how we were doing and how our travels were going (we flew in and out of Benito Juarez Airport and stayed at María Cristina on both ends). They especially went above and beyond to make sure my 83 year-old grandmother was comfortable, which I really appreciated. It’s also a great location—down the block from some good restaurants, quiet but still walkable (if you enjoy a decent walk, and we did one evening) to the Zócalo and other attractions, and a 30 minute drive or taxi ride to Coyoacán, where La Casa Azul is located, Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the airport. Likely not a typical attraction when visiting CDMX, but I’d recommend visiting the Museo Casa de Carranza at the end of the block—the architecture is stunning and it shares an important and interesting snapshot of the time around the Mexican Revolution.
This hotel is great because of its service and location. For example, its location is perfect to explore Mexico City's magic.
The hotel is well located, with plenty of good food option in that street. It is very quiet, and you don't hear anything in the rooms. There's no a/c in the rooms, and only a tower fan than can be noisy. Hot water available immediately in the shower. Internet is slow, no eay to get a zoom meeting going. I was disappointed the hotel tried to charge me tax even so the web booking mentioned the tax was included. I had to insist and show the printout. Overall a good option if you want a quiet place.
