Hotel Metropol Basel

Room Type: Comfort Room. Room Rate: $155. Positives: Accommodated super early check-in (~1000) for four of us after river cruise disembarkation on crappy rainy weather day (2025.Jun.04). Front desk agent amazing! He deserves a bonus! Extremely patient, friendly professional, courteous, and helpful. Provided to each of us a Basel Card (with map) for free rides on public transit, and half price admission to selected attractions. On-site restaurant. Room itself quite comfortable. Effective black-out curtains. Comfortable bed. Hand wand in tub/shower (a must have for me). Amenities: nail file, sewing kit, shoe horn, shoe sponge, hair dryer, frig, Nespresso machine, tea kettle, china cups and saucers. On-site breakfast buffet. 1 – 2 min walk from hotel to Basel SBB train station. Negatives: Hinged safety glass tub/shower splatter prevention wall ineffective. Bottom line: Stay here.

Really good location next to the station, and a short walk into the town, but this hotel is seriously dated. The room was spacious and very clean but very old fashioned. I had a room facing a busy road but the double window blocked the noise which was good. Breakfast was ok and service very friendly. One issue - could not find the air conditioning controls so not sure it existed.

The rooms are spacious, the personnel was very friendly. But the breakfast was disappointing: the bakery was bad looking (like they bought the cheapest possible) and instead of butter there was a butter replacement with palm oil. It does not align with 4 stars. These small detail might spoil the whole impression of hotel. If not breakfast, I would consider to return there again.
