Hotel Metropole Suisse

Our trip to Arona got cancelled due to a landslide- we were routed to COMO instead. Coming off the train we walked into this hotel, they gave us a great rate for 3 nights. The service at this hotel is amazing. Everyone is always happy and helpful. I highly recommend staying here for the service alone. They even did our laundry (affordable fee). The included breakfast was fantastic. The hotel is in the middle of all of COMOs best attractions. Making it a very good hotel for active visitors. It was a 1 minute walk to the Ferry that takes you to the “Golden Triangle” and all of the other lake Como towns. It is about a 12 minute walk to the funicular. The rooms themselves are nothing special- just a place to sleep and wash up. The beds are comfortable but overall the room was dated. This does not take away from the overall experience for us as we never were in the room. The front desk made reservations for us at the local restaurants of our choosing and arranged transport. They were the best part of the experience.

This hotel was a lovely surprise for a short break! I realised I would need somewhere to park my hired car on arrival and so contacted via email the day before and had an immediate response to my request which was so reassuring! Everyone was so kind and helpful from the start to the very end of our 3 night stay! We spoke no Italian but the staff were very good at understanding all our requests! The room (31) had a little balcony that looked over the square and the lake. Great view to watch people on and off the ferry and take the amazing mountain views including the funicular railway. The room was warm and peaceful so we slept well. The breakfast was really very very good! So much choice from salad to bacon to pastries and cheeses and all in between which gave us a great start to each day. Thank you to everyone for making this time such a memorable experience. Oh and the parking was really great in a lovely covered Garage!

Well, the hotel was perfectly located right by the edge of Lake Como unfortunately its four star rating was not to the standard that it should’ve been. I would’ve said this would’ve been clearly a three star hotel. Even though the hotel was beautifully vintage, it struggled with keeping up with modern technology. The rooms can be quite shocking and not in a good way. When I booked the hotel I was surprised to find that no one informed me that the parking was a few metres around the back. The hotel did not pick up the phone so I ended up having to park five minutes away at a cost of €45 for one day. The staff were very friendly and tried very hard. The telephones were not working so very difficult to order room service. The Internet was not to the standard that it should be in this day and age which of course when wanting to share glorious pictures of Lake Como it’s very hard to do when it takes so long with poor Internet connection. The only thing I would say is an amazing bonus to the hotel is the location that you cannot fault - if I was to return to Lake Como, I would definitely do better research in finding a far more deserving for star hotel than this one. I’m sorry to say that as much as I enjoyed your hotel it is not what you state it to be. It is more a three star hotel.
