Absolutely perfect accommodations across the board. Location, service, affordability, all top notch. I've stayed in at least 500 different hotels in my life and this was a top 10 experience for me. The owners, Matt and Mariana (I'm probably spelling it wrong:) ) were so gracious and welcoming and I look forward to a return visit!

Taverna de la Sal: My Costa Brava Secret As someone always searching for character, comfort, and genuine warmth on my travels, discovering Taverna de la Sal in L'Escala was a real find. Forget your typical three-star expectations, here’s a place that feels like three stars on paper, four stars for amenities, and a full five stars where it truly counts: service and heart. The Setting Right in the heart of L’Escala’s historic old town and just steps from Platja de les Barques, Taverna de la Sal is a stone building that breathes local history. Wake up to panoramic Mediterranean views from your balcony “”trust me”” , that’s the kind of sunrise I wish I could bottle. The Room & Amenities My room was cozy but equipped for comfort: air conditioning (a lifesaver!), generous walk-in shower, good-quality toiletries, electric kettle, fridge, and those sound-proofed windows that actually work. I appreciated small touches, like thoughtful decor and spotless cleanliness. The rooftop terrace is a bonus for sunset lovers, and covered parking made arrival stress-free. The Service: The Real Magic I’m convinced: the service is what makes this place legendary. Mariona and Matthew, the owners, set the tone with their genuine welcome and deep local knowledge. I got personal recommendations, help with local bookings, and always felt like more than “just another guest.” Special thanks to Maricielo and Dolors for the warm smiles and perfect breakfast coffee every morning. Breakfast & Dining Breakfast was honestly next level for this type of property, think local pastries, meats, cheeses, fresh orange juice, and Spanish tortilla, with made-to-order barista coffee. In the evenings, the on-site restaurant’s charcoal-grilled fish and classic Catalan dishes became the highlight of my culinary adventures. The Neighborhood L’Escala itself has all the authentic charm you could wish for, from fishing boats on the sand to bustling local festivals and ancient Greek ruins a short walk away. After long days exploring, coming home to Taverna de la Sal felt like a treat. The Verdict Taverna de la Sal is a rare combination: historic Mediterranean charm, understated luxury, and outstanding hospitality. It may say 3 stars on any travel site, but it’s an easy 4 for comfort and a straight 5 for service. As Emanuel Pesqueira, I wholeheartedly recommend it. Book early and enjoy a stay that exceeds expectations. Final Score: 9.5/10 I can’t wait to return.

What a perfect location, moments from the pretty harbour. This was the perfect small hotel with really lovely, kind hosts Mariona, from L'Escala and her New Zealand husband Matthew who were so helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious, very stylish with comfortable beds, plus good, generous breakfasts. Do eat in the always busy restaurant below for super grilled fish and meat. It's always busy, with locals too, which speaks volumes. We definitely plan to return.
