Nice place, friendly staff. Expect a standard resort experience. All the amenities, all at resort prices. Well maintained though. We had a great view from our room, Cristo on the left, ocean on the right. Large pool with an outside bar. Most of the customer interacting staff spoke at least a little English, although my translator app was invaluable. Good area, 10-20 minute Uber to pretty much anything you want if you don't want to pay premium resort price for a bottle of water.
So far, this has been a remarkably terrible experience—one for the books, really. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to anticipate my trip to Rio de Janeiro. Unfortunately, my secretary couldn’t reschedule my usual stay at Hotel Emiliano, where I’ve been a loyal guest for years, and i will be there from July 9th to August 12th. So here I am—regrettably. And from the very beginning, it’s been downhill. First, my driver wasn’t even allowed to stop at the front entrance—which really set the tone for what was to come. From there, it was a full-blown opera of incompetence. The front desk fumbled, room service was clueless, the phone operator managed to hang up on me five separate times (an impressive record, truly), and guest experience? A complete misnomer—unless the goal is to frustrate and ignore the guest entirely. It felt like each department was in a fierce competition to see who could deliver the worst service possible. Spoiler: it’s a tie. Let’s talk about the star of the show: Fernanda. What a gem. Truly the gold standard of what not to do in customer service. She managed to be both dismissive and disrespectful in one go. Despite me repeatedly correcting her, she blatantly ignored my professional title. I suppose basic courtesy is optional here? When I asked for two adapters for my devices, I was helpfully informed—by Fernanda, of course—that I could just go downstairs and buy them myself. Lovely. It didn't finish... when I asked for 2 transformers, instead of telling each one has 5 outlets, she told me that unfortunately the hotel will not offer me it. Then, when I needed assistance with the internet (you know, because some of us actually work), she recommended I go to a nearby co-working space at the mall, instead of offering the obvious solution: sending someone to fix the problem in my room. Three hours later—yes, three hours—an IT team finally showed up: Andrei, Ronald, and someone on his very first day (and he was very prepared and helpfull). Ronald not only brought a transformer but also got my devices charging and fixed the Wi-Fi, which wasn’t functioning at all. The new guy and Andrei where able to fix the internet problem, and give me an extra installing my Netflix. When I asked why this took hours, they informed me they had only been contacted ten minutes before arriving. So basically, the delay was entirely avoidable—just another triumph in communication and guest care. If this place wanted to offer a case study in how not to treat guests, congratulations: mission accomplished.
A 5-star hotel, which does not clean your rooms despite the red light. And when the room is cleaned these are sloppy. The floor is never done, we who come back from the beach have sand throughout the room. The toilet paper is missing. And the tom we receive that a large wipe to decide for two. At the time of check in a missing towel card they do not fail to want to charge us 100 rs. It is useless to have dinner in the evening since there is deliberately nothing to hydrate you and pushes you to buy as well. This is not worthy of a 5-star hotel. Even a 3 star hotel has a better way and a better friendliness. We explain to him that the service is zero and the lady answers us ok but we have to pay the 100rs.
