What a gem of a hotel! From rooms with the remnants of beautiful frescoes on the ceiling, to the beautiful courtyard garden with views of the tower of Santa Maria Novella. Oozing old world charm, right down to the old-fashioned brass keys. But with all the modern conveniences, including large marble tiled bathrooms with power showers. The location could not be more convenient, close to the train station and an easy walk to all the main sights. And the staff are exceptional, friendly, welcoming and delightful.
The room space was big. The breakfast was good. My family enjoyed our stay so much. We will definitely come back. The location was good. Restaurants in front and beside the hotel. Staff were kind and let us book at the last minute.
A charming hotel with great development potential. Absolutely do not understand any other positive reviews. The staff are arrogant and do not put themselves into the guests' experience and try to understand or do their best to make sure that you have the best experience possible. Or that it is difficult for gay people. Claims when I complain about the room (the door in the middle of the stairwell and the window facing the street, on the first floor), that I apparently got an upgrade to a double room. I was shown a "single room" and it was both larger and had the same bed. However, the air conditioning was very loud. The staff did not care when I mentioned that I would check out the next day, to find a better room. If they had only been understanding and apologized for the situation, it would have been much better. I heard the noise all the time from the reception, straight up the stairs and the car traffic. The shutters could not be closed, as the bracket had been removed. This meant that I had to help close them and be woken up by a little light. Drawing the curtains was unthinkable, then I would have blocked the entire air conditioning. Everything terribly ill-conceived. The air conditioning also lives a life of its own. Even though I set it to 20 degrees via the remote control, it is only occasionally that it is cool in the room. The room is dusty, and my dog came out from under the bed, covered in dust. A hole has been repaired in the shower, not with silicone, but with duct tape. The breakfast is pathetic. The containers with hot food are broken and they have placed tea lights under them (!). Not enough and the food is cold. The eggs are placed in egg cups and are therefore cold and constantly overcooked, so they are dark. The juice is diluted with water. No one on the staff wishes you a good morning. The emergency exit is blocked with one of the buffets. The bar is manned by a caretaker. The first evening he was standing in the lobby when I arrived and asked about the bar. The reception told me where it was. As I stood there, the person behind me went into the kitchen and ignored me completely. The second evening I had to ask for him and then I was told he had gone out and would be back soon to serve. The third evening he was standing on a ladder painting the ceiling in the entrance. It would have been much better if the reception had also manned the bar, or closed it completely. Absurd that a caretaker should be in charge of cleaning, maintenance and the bar. I was offered to book a dog sitter. I did so, but I didn't get any information about who the person was or anything else. When I asked on site, I was told vaguely "it's usually the owner's friend". It turned out it was a stranger they had found somewhere. Didn't understand why I was worried about handing over my dog to a stranger they didn't know anything about. Had a good conversation with the person and he understood how I experienced everything. This one was so fantastic (only at the hotel), so he has an offer to get some good words for both more assignments as a dog sitter and work. What is good is the location and the way the hotel is decorated. Also the night staff who are very nice and give a lot of information. The day staff have a lot to learn from them. With better management and changing many things, this hotel would be a gem in Florence. Now it is mostly mediocre.
