Service is excellent and very welcoming. We had a flat tyre on the way to the hotel and nearly missed the last train driving up to the hotel- however the hotel helped us by contacting the train operator and alerting them to our arrival. We could catch this way the last train driving up to the hotel and it was just fantastic after a stressful start of our vacation. Everyone was so nice, the train operators, the hotel reception and the hotel personnel. Rooms are great, food is really good, the view and the hikes just amazing. It was really worth while and a very nice experience.
Everything was exceptional and excellent. The room was spacious for 2 people, one downside is that it had 1 window. It can get quite warm in the room as it's an alpine area and the heater is on. Just need to open the widow. Great spacious shower and bathroom . It's a shame the bed wasn't 1 king but 2 large beds put together with a small gap. That didn't bother me as the bed was quite large in itself. All the staff are very friendly, professional, welcoming and always there to help. It's so quiet at night which we loved . The breakfast , dinner was a decent choice and had ample food in the Queen Victoria room . The location itself is simply spectacular. Some areas are weather dependant in opening but its definitely worth it . As weather goes it is alpine so very unexpected and unpredictable. We got fog, mist, sleet , snow , wind cloudy , part sun and a full sun on our last day . The staff do inform the first and last times for the gondola which itself is spectacular. Highly highly recommend this place and hope for great weather .
I came here about 20 years ago. It is a wonderful place. Too bad the hotel’s service doesn’t hold up. The weather was completely socked in the two days we stayed so there was nothing much of the natural beauty that we could enjoy since there was thick fog and hiking, star gazing and seeing the view were not options. This was in July and out of the ordinary weather from what I could tell for the region. I am not blaming them for the weather as I fully understand this is out of their control. However, they made no efforts to help guests out with. Not what I would expect as common courtesy but especially at $900 a night. What is in their control was the train - perhaps run extra trains in bad weather so people aren’t trapped up with nothing to do, have information about how to get around town like the local bus schedule to actually try to help people, have information about the mountain’s activities and what is open or closed as alternatives for people. The staff was not very helpful. They didn’t want to answer questions about trying to get around. They barely let me take a picture of the train schedule. And didn’t have any working activities at the hotel for rainy weather days. The last train up is at 5;30pm so you can’t do much in the town and if the weather is foggy and thunderstorms as it was for our two day stay. You are stuck with no activities and a staff that doesn’t want to be there either or at least that is the attitude of the staff. They had an interactive dragon activity that didn’t work. Might have helped entertain the kids but no luck there. Only my memories of 20 years ago let me know it is a wonderful place. Maybe skip the hotel and bad service and come up for day. At $900 dollars a night, I would expect that they have something for bad weather since I am sure we are not the first guests to experience that for their entire stay. Maybe at around $300 or $400 a night I would have felt it was worth it but certainly not at these prices plus paying the $40 to get up and down each way. I do regret talking my family into spending some of our vacation time and money here. Next time when I come to Switzerland, I know to skip this hotel. I can see how many in good weather think it is great but it is just the location that is great not the hotel and service. The pictures reflect the view we saw and why we didn’t hike
