Hotel PortoBay Santa Maria

This was my 3rd holiday here with a 9 night stay. The staff are wonderful, the location is perfect with a short walk to the fort, cable car, swimming areas, the old town, etc. The facilities are also great including the indoor and outdoor pools and the bar and Resturant. I would like to return to this hotel and recommend it highly. It’s adults only and nice & peaceful. As a nice birthday surprise a card and tasty bottle of bubbly was placed in the room - a lovely thought that was much appreciated!

The Hotel was fabulous from the front desk through to the rooms, all staff pleasant and welcoming, any questions were answered and couldn’t have helped anymore, the restaurant was clean, bright and airy. Food fantastic, the pools area were clean and not too full, the pool bar had music every evening and the drinks were always flowing, the staff were so friendly, including Emilia, Sonia and Roberto, and a man who kisses everyone, the staff seem to know the returning guests and treat them as long lost friends. All in all a great place to go, central to the old town, cable cars and bus station.

Having stayed at the Porto Santa Maria once before we chose it for our 40th wedding anniversary week and we were not disappointed. The hotel is adult only which suited us. The staff are very friendly and totally efficient in everything they do. It was nice to see the general manager out and about every day speaking to guests. Our room was well equipped and comfortable with a large balcony overlooking the harbour of Funchal. The restaurant is modern and the food is very good.
