Hotel Puerta de Bilbao

Brilliant hotel.Rooms spacious,lovely lobby and a super breakfast.Pool a lovely go to area.Quick 15 min walk to Ansio for underground to city centre and €10 for a family of 5 to get into town.

Stayed overnight as catching the ferry to Portsmouth next day. The hotel is modern, the rooms are large, bathrooms a bit tired. The restaurant was excellent, great fish cookery, I had confit bacalao, perfection, wife had lubina, again perfection, both a little under seasoned but it's easier to add . Good secure parking onsite.

We stayed here for 7 days in June, partly booked via Booking.com and can strongly advise against this hotel. We were probably not alert when booking, because the prices on the invoice varied per day. The most expensive day was invoiced for 230 euros! For that money we got a bare room without a minibar, without toiletries and even without a toilet brush. The shower drain needs to be cleaned. Room with thin walls. We experienced the shaking of the bed at the neighbours. A coffee machine or water kettle, cups or glasses are not available and is not supplied for this price. (We have asked confirmation). The hotel restaurant also does not open before 19:30. The hotel is located outside Bilbao and it is a 20-minute walk from the hotel to the Ansio metro station. (Hardly any shadow on the walk to that station) From there another 20 minutes to the old city Public transport to the airport is time-consuming. Taxi takes 20 minutes. No hotel shuttle service. Clearly not a tourist hotel but for business meetings. Going into town will not happen often. The same or better room can be booked in this hotel for 90 euros per day. So be alert and avoid this hotel. Not a 4 star hotel.
