At the advice of a local from Samara, we drove to Punta Islita resort and purchased a day pass for $70. The facilities were amazing! The food was amazing! The service was amazing! We were treated like royalty. They remembered our names and delivered us drinks and food to our lounge chairs all throughout the day. The view was spectacular and we even saw a Macaw. The ocean looked fun to swim in, but the waves were deceptively big and tossed us around a little bit. We had an incredibly relaxing and fun filled day.

If you are looking for rustic luxury then this is the place to be! We stayed here for 5 nights in early May, and could not be more delighted with our experience. We were celebrating a very special occasion and the staff at Punta Islita upgraded us to a villa with the most amazing infinity pool, as to which we spent a lot of time enjoying! We also thoroughly enjoyed all the bird watching right out of our back door. Now this place really is completely secluded. You do have to drive some pretty intense dirt roads to get here, but well worth it. Please don't expect some perfect 5 star resort. You are in the rainforest so there will be insects and animals surrounding you everywhere you go. At any given time of the day you will hear at least 10 different animals all day long and some may hang out right on your back patio. It's an experience you just can quite put into words. Keep in mind that with it being so secluded, there really is not much to do other than relax. But let me tell you, it was much needed. The staff was amazing and took care of us very well! The weather was actually pretty great for the most part. Sunny and partly cloudy pretty much every day, and then rained pretty much every night. On a side, definitely be prepared for the humidity. With all the reviews I read, nothing quite prepared us for that. You will want to be near a body of water at all times! Overall a great experience!

Beautiful location, exceptional beach area, warm and friendly people - but some of the rooms are LONG overdue for remodeling. My wife and I were traveling with another couple and visited in Feb 2025. They had the honeymoon suite, which was very nice and we had a '2-bedroom villa with Ocean View'. Unfortunately, our room did not appear to have been updated since it was built. The mattresses on the beds were approximately 2 inches thick on top of slats. This was more like sleeping on a cot than it was a bed. All of the fixtures were very dated - as in 20+ years old and it was in need of a deep clean. Our 'ocean view' was more a view of a local cell tower, but we could see the ocean when standing up on the patio. I did contact the manager after the first night and they moved us to a different room, which while much smaller was a great improvement. There are other reviews mentioning this issue, so if you choose to stay here - VERIFY your room condition BEFORE you book, if possible - or be prepared. Now for the positives. The food at the hotel is very good. There are many activities and things to do in the area. The little town of Islita is adorable and we saw many of the hotel staff also working in the town. ALL of the people we met were warm, friendly and inviting and we always felt safe and welcome. This hotel is built on a hill - a STEEP hill, with a LOT of steps. The first room was almost at the bottom of this hill, so if you don't have a car, be prepared to get your steps in (or ask them for a ride).
