Hotel Quinta da Penha de França

Great value! Building like a villa where we stayed, easy access to restaurant with great breakfast and other meals, helpful front desk that scheduled our activities, and access to sister hotel with great pool and ocean access. We loved it here. Not hard to get to the waterfront, main streets and parks walking if you are in decent shape. The parking lot is a bit tight but free, and it is on one way streets, but great food in the area as well. Will probably stay there again.

Mostly good. Very nice breakfast included. Comfy beds, sensible pillows, decent shower. Safe requires key which you have to get from reception and unusually for hotels these days there's a charge €12.50 for the week plus €10 refundable deposit. Heatwave at the moment and "Aircon" is just blowing room air, no cooking at all, reported 3 times but not fixed.

Positives - Location: 10/10 Lots of restaurants & bars on the street, just a 8min walk to the marina. - Rooms: Spacious rooms. Love the tech they use for the ac to turn off automatically when the balcony door is open. - Service: We were in Madeira celebrating my birthday, they sent me a cake & champagne to the room - super thoughtful! Negatives - We had an early flight, our prebooked bolt ride cancelled so we requested the front desk to help us get a cab. The man was very grumpy & not very friendly, not the type of person you want to interact with when you are stressing about a cab cancellation to the airport. - Bed was very uncomfortable - spring mattress I assume? Also not ideal to give a couple a room where you have just joined 2 double beds and put the sheets together.
